Thursday Thoughts

Another one of the great Table Topics that we took from the wedding two weeks ago...

If you lived to be 100 would it be more important to have a sharp mind or a fit body?

For me, a sharp mind. My paternal grandmother and my maternal great- grandmother both ended up with Alzheimer's and I'm thinking that may be in the cards for me. I wouldn't mind so much having to stay put so long as I could remember names & faces & relationships, etc. I think having all that taken away from me would make me furious. I can understand why patients get so mad!

That is a tough one. I work in the health care industry and see both sides. Personally, I want my mind to go before my body, so I guess my answer would be a fit body. Of course I'd love to keep both, but watching someone with a sharp mind lose their body functions is horrible. Most of the people who lose their mind wander around aimlessly happy, so it can't be that bad. They just ask the same questions over and over.

I would really prefer to have a sharp mind... I've seen what dementia and Alzheimer's can do - it not only affects the individual, but their family as well... In the end having my mental faculties would seem much more important.
