Last year I got invited to speak at a vacation Bible school's "Sports Camp". I spoke about running and triathlon. This year Dave was invited to share his experience about Ironman. The topic for today's VBS: self doubt.
Dave did a fantastic job of speaking at the kids level and tried to make them understand the enormity that is Ironman. He spoke up training 6 days a week. He spoke about the number of hours it took him to complete the race. He brought props: his swim cap, a cowbell, his race number, and his bike. He let the kids pick up the bike to show them how light it was. What I thought was brilliant was how he incorporated self doubt he felt about signing up for the race, training for the race, and finishing in the race while in the race. I'm not sure the kids really grasped it, but the adults that were in attendance gasped and giggled as Dave made jokes about only having 20 miles left in the race.
Thanks Jon and Tamara for inviting us along this year. Those kids are a blast.
